musician at loveland records:
Lee Konitz (b.1927)
Lee Konitz has been a most important musician on the international jazz scene for more than 60 years. Besides being one of the originators of the 'cool'-sound of the 1950s, his own groups and recordings have included legends such as Lennie Tristano, Chet Baker, Jim Hall, and Elvin Jones. Konitz himself ranges today as a key figure in the history of modern jazz and has continued to develop his original, lyrical saxophone playing. Not only does he incarnate the evolution of seminal styles and turns of jazz music spanning over more than half a century. He has also persistently teamed up with new generations of artists, lending his unique alto tone and life long experience to them. This is as well what comes to mind when listening to Konitz in the company of Jakob Bro and the prominent group playing on Balladeering.
