Kurt Rosenwinkel made his entrance on the scene of contemporary jazz in the early 90s with a completely refreshing sound and attitude to playing the guitar. Following other modern innovators of the instrument such as Bill Frisell and John Schofield, Rosenwinkel has been able to carry on the legacy from a long tradition of jazz guitarists, while also developing a personal and radically new style of his own, mixing sophisticated technique with a distinct tone and unconventional, yet lyrical phrasings. Rosenwinkel himself has become an inspirational key figure and without doubt took his part in marking a crucial shift in current jazz music, performing with artists like Mark Turner, Jeff Ballard, Ben Street and Brad Mehldau.
