Jonas Westergaard (b. 1976)

Jonas Westergaard is unquestionably one of the most original bassists emerging from the new Danish jazz scene, making his serious entrance in the late 1990s. Since then he has continuously been developing his distinct style, playing always with an individual tone and a remarkable sense of rhythmic and melodic consistency. Westergaard's deeply grounded sound and his versatile technique has made him an obvious choice as a sideman for a great number of acclaimed Danish and international jazz artists. This has led Westergaard to perform with George Garzone, Michael Blake, Tim Berne, and Steven Bernstein, to name a few. In 2006 Westergaard was rewarded with a special grant from the Danish National Radio, allowing him to record and play with his own Nonet. The result of this can be heard on the CD "Helgoland" released by Stunt Records in 2008.
