Ben Street (b. 1966)

Ben Street has become a sought-after bassist, playing with an unusual and finely tuned balance between harmonic subtleness and rhythmic complexity. His strong sense of basic melody and attention to detail has made him an appreciated sideman for artists such as Kurt Rosenwinkel, Sam Rivers, Anthony Coleman, and Lee Konitz. He has also been contributing to a number of Jakob Bro's releases, and here too his personal tone and style of improvisation is unmistakeable. Street without doubt displays a highly interesting and imaginative approach to his instrument - an approach which is both avant-garde and elementary at the same time, as he succeeds in pushing along substantial grooves while still being able to perform freely and elaborately expressive, far beyond the usual limitations of the bass player.
