Loveland records:
The Danish guitarist Jakob Bro has devoted his latest release to the form of the trio, where he has teamed up with two of his fellow Danish jazz players, Anders Christensen (bass) and Jakob Høyer (drums). This is their first album together as a trio, characterized by a deliberate focus on the basic rudiments of jazz music, including exclusively well known standards and ballads from the great tradition of the genre. However, Who Said Gay Paree? is obviously not merely a repetition of what has already been played. Jakob Bro's own, as well as his associates’ approach to this music most of all stands out as personal and reflective, with clear respect for the melodic and particular foundations, which have come to define the artistic forms and development of modern jazz. And as such, Who Said Gay Paree? can also be considered a journey into the history and essence of the jazz tradition where experienced listeners as well as newcomers are inclined to discover new aspects and exciting nuances.
