Jakob Bro Nonet
White Rainbow
Loveland Records (LLR009)
In 2007 Jakob Bro created an impressive work for nine musicians, which was performed twice in connection with the Jazz Festivals in Copenhagen and Aarhus. The sound of this extraordinary performance was captured during the concerts, and these compelling live recordings are now being released as the album White Rainbow, which stands out as an overwhelmingly rich musical experience with layers of sound for the listener to delve into and explore. The unusual constellation present on White Rainbow - including two drummers, two bassplayers, and some of the most unique voices of the contemporary experimental jazz scene - creates a soundscape which is captivating, stark, and sensitive at once. Bro’s compositions are being challenged to the limits by each participating musician’s improvised outbursts, and the album as a whole constantly gravitates between collectively substantial playing and spontaneous personal expression. White Rainbow is most of all an astounding musical collage of melodies, stormy improvisations, and complex rhythmical structures, with everything swinging organically and integrated.
