Loveland records:
Beautiful Day's third release Copenhagen Melodrama both alludes to the provenance of the band's members as well as the character and development of their further musical explorations. This is the sound of a band that has persistently avoided repeating themselves and instead kept on working out new sounds and nuances for each individual album. One is therefore not in doubt that it is actually Beautiful Day performing here, although the music is not overtly melodramatic, nor specifically connected to their Danish hometown. Rather the seven tracks are full of subtle excitement and a distinctive, yet modest melancholic feeling - small dramas being played out in a universal musical language that still speaks with the personal tone and accents of the band. Beautiful Day's artistic scope has clearly widened, opening up new grounds for their collective improvisations along with a compositional and melodic complexity unique to this album.
